Home Hacks, Tie Giveaway Voting, and a Paper Doily Butterfly

Today I made my first attempt at a butterfly project—and it’s lacy, a little uneven, and very much in progress. I used a paper doily from a Supply Swap scrap bin to shape a butterfly specimen and while it’s not quite there yet, I’m finally starting to like the direction. There’s work left to do, but I’ll save the progress for the weekend.

Consider this an official call for butterfly projects (yes, yours!), share your butterfly crafts all month long in our project show and tell space here »

This week, we’ve got a few fun updates to share: a little movement in our Pattern Swappers group, a tie vote, and a new Remnants seller who just joined the party.

Let’s get into it →

💬 What’s Happening in the Community

Check out what’s buzzing around the community this week:

👋 Say Hi to Lauren!

🎀 Tie Giveaway: Cast Your Vote!

We’ve got five creative entries for our Tie Giveaway, and now it’s your turn to help decide who gets the goods. Each entrant has shared their vision for how they’d upcycle the 150+ ties—and we’re loving the ideas. Come read their plans and vote for your favorite!

📁 Pattern Swappers Need You:

Our Pattern Swappers space is officially taking shape! We’ve organized threads for everything from macramé to plastic canvas, but now we need your favorite patterns—snapshots, links, PDFs—just make sure they are shareable (vintage, free leaflets, etc). Don’t forget to tag the category for easy sorting.

🏡 Sustainable Home Hacks

Small swaps, big impact! This week, we're sharing some simple, sustainable tips for your home:

🧽 A clever homemade take on Magic Erasers
👕 And a go-to method for reviving yellowed or stained clothing
🧼 A DIY version of that popular Dawn Powerwash spray

Everyday reuse, low-waste cleaning, and a little creative problem solving—because sustainability starts right where you are.

🧽 Homemade “Magic Erasers”

Those white sponges work wonders, but they’re single-use and can add up. This Instagram post from @barefoot.mimosas shares a simple way to make your own version with common household ingredients. Budget- and eco-friendly.

👕 How to Brighten Yellowed Clothing

Before you toss that stained tee or discolored vintage find, try this natural cleaning trick by @theslowera to restore it. It’s very close to my own process for reviving old garments and keeping them from becoming clothing waste.

🧼 Re-Make That Dawn Spray Soap

Love the convenience of Dawn Powerwash but not the price or plastic? In case you missed it, I wrote a post that breaks down how to refill and recreate the spray at home—same foamy magic, way less waste.
