Make the Season Bright ✨

My pile of craft projects is growing. Today I finally vowed to sort through my plans and trim back what I’ve been holding onto in hopes of “someday.” The balance between “I want to make more” and “I want to let things go” has never felt more at odds.

Having supplies around that inspire is wonderful. Tossing goodies into bins and promising “I’ll use that for something” is basically a hobby in itself. But this year has taught me a lot about abundance. There is no shortage of materials I’ll love. There will always be another fabric I adore, another unexpected find, another spark waiting to be discovered.

So today I focused on keeping the things that will actually make my projects bright. The sparkly tinsels, the sequins, the glitter. The pieces that practically glow on their own. Which feels fitting, because this month’s creative challenge is all about the glow.

Let's get into it

✨ December Project Challenge: Make the Season Bright

With the season in full glow, this month’s project theme is officially here: Make the Season Bright. Anything that sparkles, shines, feels colorful, or brings a bit of light to your world is fair game. To join in, simply make something inspired by the theme and share it here on Peo Vee. Every project added in December enters you into our drawing to win $25 in creative reuse supplies.

To help get you started, here are two bright ideas that put color at the center:

🎨 Project Idea #1: Abstract Christmas Trees

Let color do the storytelling.

Think overlapping shapes, translucent layers, geometric cut-outs, or a cascade of circles and triangles arranged into a tree form. Use scraps of tissue, painted paper, vellum, or whatever vibrant bits you already have in your stash. The joy of this project is how playful it is — it’s less about “realism” and more about the glow that happens when colors interact.

Great for:
✔ leftover wrapping paper
✔ tissue paper scraps
✔ painted paper offcuts
✔ cardstock in bold palettes

⭐ Project Idea #2: Handmade Holiday Stars

Nothing says “bright” like stars — especially when they’re made from rescued materials.

Try folded paper stars, layered rosettes, or mid-century inspired tinsel stars that shimmer from across the room. Mix metallics with pastels, color with foil, or go full kaleidoscope. These are stunning on a tree, wall, gift, or garland.

Great for:
✔ foil scraps
✔ tinsel leftovers
✔ bright paper
✔ vintage wrapping pieces
✔ fabric or felt snippets

When Everything Sparkled: Revisiting 1990s Sequin Art & Fashion Kits

There was something about the 1990s that made sparkle feel essential. Maybe it was the tail end of disco nostalgia. Maybe it was early Y2K optimism. Whatever the reason, sequins, big, bold and glittering, found their way onto jackets, tops, pillows, and DIY kits.
