The “Little Things” that outshine pumpkin spice ✨
Summer is coming to a close, whether we like it or not, and the return to the hustle and bustle of the work/school season is upon us. With the return to fall comes the return to fall crafting. I’m already seeing videos for skulls and pumpkins. Are pumpkin-scented candles and spiced lattes all the rage again already? I, for one, am not ready.
Instead, I’ve been focusing on all of the little things sitting around. I’m suddenly seeing them everywhere—bread tags I keep for no reason (and sometimes my husband annoyingly tosses), scrap ribbon too small for most projects but still stuffed into bins, and jewelry bits left behind at supply swaps. Recently, I turned some of those stray jewelry pieces into a new work that reminded me how satisfying it is to give tiny, overlooked things a new place to shine.
And that’s really what our “Little Things” challenge is about—taking what might seem insignificant and transforming it into something special.

🧵 August Challenge: From Scraps to Spark
This month’s Little Things theme is all about noticing the potential in the tiniest odds and ends. Here are three ideas to get you started: a tassel born from leftover thread, a playful pencil-based artwork, and earrings fashioned from found objects.
Tassel Art with Leftover Threads
Today Lauren posted a great tutorial on making use of leftover threads, and with my own thread bin overflowing, I’m hoping to make time to give this a try before our monthly challenge wraps.
The Art of Arrangement
Check out this jaw-dropping assemblage by ProcrastinationArts—hundreds of vintage pencils arranged into a geometric patchwork, with a single red square breaking the pattern. From a distance, it reads bold and even symbolic (think flag vibes); up close, you’ll find hidden Americana: pencils branded for banks, schools, Coca-Cola, and more. A beautiful reminder that everyday scraps—even pencils—can become art when arranged with intention.
Found Object Earrings
Sometimes the smallest scraps make the biggest statement. Old buttons, ribbon offcuts, safety pins, hardware bits, or even broken jewelry can all be transformed into earrings with a little imagination and a pair of hooks. It’s a perfect Little Things project—taking objects that might otherwise be forgotten and letting them shine as one-of-a-kind wearable art.
🎃 Fall Finds & Spooky Supplies 🍂
If you’re not quite ready for pumpkin spice everything but still want to lean into the season, our Fall & Halloween collections on Remnants are the perfect fix. Think skulls, warm textures, a little sparkle of mischief—just the kind of stash that makes you want to ditch the latte and grab your glue gun instead.

Spiral Crochet Dolls: A Midcentury Toy with Whimsy in Every Stitch
Some crafts feel frozen in a moment in time—and spiral crochet dolls are one of them.
Popular in the mid-20th century, these whimsical toys were built from individual crocheted discs, each one a perfect little spiral of yarn. The discs were strung together like beads to form the body, arms, and legs of a doll, often finished with puffed hands and feet.
They’re part amigurumi, part folk art, part nostalgia—and all charm.
Go ahead, dig through your bins, jars, and drawers—you never know which “little thing” might be the start of your next favorite project. I’ll see you back here next week with more inspiration, more finds, and (hopefully) a few more of your projects to cheer on.
Until then, happy making ✂️✨
