Let’s squash some creativity together 🧡

A Week of Making (and a Few Misses)

This past week, I flipped my usual routine upside down. Instead of pushing creative time to the very bottom of the to-do list, I started my mornings with it. And wow, turns out, caffeine isn’t the only jumpstart a day needs!

The results? A mix of triumphs and experiments-in-progress: a burst of crayon art, a pair of homemade cat ears, a terrible attempt at Kimekomi ornaments (round two coming soon), and even an upcycled painting born from an Andy Warhol game. If you were watching in the community, you know it was a full parade of projects.

Now that I’ve had a taste of what daily making feels like, I’m hooked. Here’s to carrying that streak forward—and into our brand-new October challenge, announced just below.

Let’s get into it →

🍂October’s Creative Challenge: Fall

The votes are in, and our community has spoken—October’s project theme is Fall!

This month, we invite you to channel autumn into your creations. Play with deep reds, golden yellows, and earthy browns. Layer textures that remind you of crisp mornings or cozy evenings. Incorporate natural elements, recycled fabrics in seasonal hues, or even upcycled décor that captures the spirit of fall.

How to join in
Post your Fall project in the Post Your Project space anytime this month. Every submission will be entered into a drawing to win a bundle of creative reuse supplies from Remnants.

🎃 Project Inspiration: Cozy Autumn Crafts

Project One: Pumpkin Spice Salt Dough Garland
I’ve been on a bit of a salt dough kick lately, and this one feels especially perfect for October. Add pumpkin spice to your dough for a garland that looks as good as it smells. Shape it into pumpkins, leaves, or any cozy fall motif and string them up to bring a bit of autumn cheer into your space.

Project Two: Collaged Harvest Pumpkins
No pattern needed for this one, just grab your scraps and let your imagination flow. Layer bits of fabric or paper to create vibrant patchwork pumpkins. It’s a simple way to celebrate the season while making use of all those odds and ends you’ve been saving.

The Beauty of Unfinished Projects: Giving Craft Work a Second Life

Every crafter has them, those half-finished projects that linger at the bottom of a tote or the back of a closet. Sometimes life gets in the way, sometimes enthusiasm fades, sometimes the project just isn’t working out. And eventually, those unfinished pieces often find their way into estate sales, swaps, or (sadly) the trash.

As we wrap up this week, I hope you find a little time to tuck into your own creative corner, whether that’s folding paper, stitching scraps, or just letting your ideas wander.

Keep crafting,
